Precise measurements are essential to guarantee perfect installation and avoid any rework. At Made in Glass, we'll guide you step by step to ensure reliable measurements, whatever your project (terrace railings, balconies, staircases or mezzanines).

Before you start - What you need to prepare

  • A tape measure or laser rangefinder
  • A notebook or smartphone for noting dimensions
  • Clear photos of the area (wide shot + close-ups)
  • Plans or sketches if available (even schematic)

How to send us your measurements

For optimum support, please send us by email (or via our form):

  • Photos of the site (at least 3 views: general, detail of fixing point, access)
  • A sketch or annotated plan with main dimensions
  • Access constraints (stairs, floors, narrow corridors, etc.)

Photos are particularly useful: our technicians can annotate your images directly to indicate precisely where to take measurements.

Essential measurements to be taken

Here are the priority measurements we always ask for:

  • Total length of area to be equipped (mm)
  • Usefulheight of guardrail (from finished floor to top of handrail) (mm)
  • Depth or overhang (distance from edge to obstacle)
  • Positions of existingposts or fixing points (if present)
  • Radii/curves and slopes (for stairs: height and tread of steps)
  • Type of support (concrete, wood, metal) and thickness of slab nose if relevant

Staircase dimensions - specific points

Staircases require special attention: indicate the succession of steps (height and tread), the direction of ascent, and take photos of risers and stringers. If possible, provide a plan view and a profile view.

Our practical recommendations

  • Always record dimensions in mm (millimeters) for greater precision.
  • If you're unsure between two measurements, make a note of both and specify the uncertainty.
  • For complex projects, contact our CAD department: we'll produce a 2D/3D drawing for validation.

After you've sent us the dimensions - our intervention

  • Our technicians analyze your elements and contact you if any clarifications are required.
  • We annotate your photos and provide a list of measurements to be completed if necessary.
  • Depending on the complexity, we propose a simple layout (glass table) or a complete CAD drawing.
